Owner Inditex announced the list of global direct and indirect wet finishing suppliers, and Greenpeace praised Inditex group's "demonstration" operation pparency.
The group has already provided direct and indirect Supplier Lists for printing, dyeing, washing, tanning and printing.
The former has direct purchasing relationship with Inditex group, and the latter's supplier list includes direct supplier's contract factory.
The list reflects the status quo of the company's active business partnership. Inditex group said that the list of the 404 factories will increase over time.
However, since the contents of the database are provided by multiple business entities, Inditex added: "the accuracy of our list of indirect suppliers is largely dependent on our direct suppliers disclosing to us that they have direct business relationship with these wet finishing plants.
Inditex has recently been recognized by Greenpeace's environmental action group, which is part of the annual assessment process, consisting of 19 major fashion brands and retailers.
It examines their commitment to remove toxic chemicals from their supply chain in four years.
Greenpeace said that the company had delivered all the standard forms and added that its pparency is exemplary: it has ensured that its suppliers publish data on hazardous chemicals emitted from the waste water. It has issued a list of suppliers for its wet finishing process; investigates its dangerous chemicals in the entire supply chain, including cross regional trend analysis; and there is a fundamental procedure for determining the source of hazardous chemicals.
However, other companies such as Hennes&Mauritz (H&M) and Benetton, who are planning to check their supply chain, are praised by Greenpeace. The group is concerned about the lack of a continuous non-toxic target to be made by the textile and garment industry before 2020, and suggests that part of the problem lies in the "defective" list of chemicals.
It also sets the goal of closed-loop recovery system as the next focus of its activities.
